Retiring CFO Dennis Peachey looks back

For over eight years, Dennis Peachey served as Valley View’s Chief Financial Officer. This fall, he passed the baton to new CFO Mindy Retherford (learn more about her on in the article above). We sat down with Dennis to talk about the parts of Valley View that will stay with him long after he’s reviewed his last spreadsheet, how his role has brought him joy, and what he’s looking forward to the most about retirement (the answer may surprise you!). Read on!

What milestones are you honored to have accomplished?
As I reflect on my years at Valley View, the most rewarding aspect is the reality that Valley View remains strong and viable for years after the onset of the pandemic. In 2019, VVRC was emerging from several difficult years with a strong financial performance. Covid was extraordinarily difficult, but Valley View is now poised to embrace the future and to continue meeting the needs of the community.

What word encapsulates your time at Valley View?
Perseverance captures well my days at Valley View. Whether confronting difficult financial decisions, the loss of a sense of control on many days, or some personal struggles, the reliance on a faithful perseverance always carried the day.

What is one thing you learned during your time as CFO?
My tenure at Valley View has helped me understand the importance of bonds with family and friends. Observing the interactions of family and friends with Valley View residents underscores how important expressions of love and care are to defining our humanity.

Which part of the role gave you the most joy?
Without question, I got the most joy and satisfaction from interactions with residents and the knowledge that the efforts of all team members provided them with a safe and secure place to call home. All of that will be missed and will provide much to reflect and reminisce on as I move into a new chapter of life.

What is the next chapter for you?
In my early life, I spent a number of years raising baby pigs. Two of our grandsons are eagerly anticipating the birth of several litters of pigs this fall. I look forward to teaching them some of the fine points of nurturing piglets! I look forward to traveling, spending time with family, and spending lots of time outdoors communing with nature.
