Memory Personal Care FAQs
July 8, 2025

Valley View’s new Memory Personal Care neighborhood will open in 2026.
What is personal memory care and what will it look like at VVRC?
Valley View is excited to begin offering Memory Personal Care services in the Summer of 2026. We recognize the efforts of many in the greater community caring for someone with cognitive needs within their home, and we are preparing to serve as a future resource should they have a need. We also see an increased need on our campus and want to ensure we can best support current residents as well.
Rather than breaking ground for a building project, we are designing a newly imagined space within our existing footprint, offering twenty-one studio apartments. The neighborhood will offer a secure and supportive environment that invites and encourages residents to engage in purposeful and meaningful activities. The main focus will be on social interactions fostering new friendships filled with shared joyful moments.
How does it differ from what is already happening in Memory Lane?
For the past ten years, Memory Lane has been a leader in memory services, and we see many reasons to build upon lessons learned as we think through design and programming needs. Memory Personal Care will have an enhanced focus on memory aids and cues, so residents have successes in their day not just within their own studio apartment but when out and about joining in activities or enjoying the outdoor courtyard. Residents within a personal care setting typically need less hands-on care than is provided within a nursing setting such as Memory Lane.
Will Memory Lane change?
Although we have no plans to change Memory Lane, we do see this as a great opportunity for Memory Lane to welcome and make several new friends.
When will it open?
Currently, we are busy with internal design elements and look forward to sharing them with you soon. Equally significant to this space is the design and construction of a new secure outdoor courtyard for residents to freely access and enjoy throughout the day. We anticipate opening Memory Personal Care in the Summer of 2026.
If my loved one is living with dementia, how do I know which neighborhood would be best for them?
Recognizing the complexities of caregiving for someone you love, we find it extremely beneficial to sit down with others to hear about current needs, challenges, and hopes for the future. In doing so we are best able to help guide and share possible options and to discuss the next steps.
How else is Valley View supporting people living with dementia and their families?
We have a strong desire to support people in the place they call home, whether or not they are residents on campus. It is not uncommon for us to talk with caregivers in the greater community who might call with questions. As a result of these calls, we have started offering quarterly Dementia Information sessions on our campus and have found Dementia Friendly Pennsylvania to be an invaluable resource and support.

How can I reserve a studio apartment for my loved one?
If you are currently navigating caregiving for someone you love and have a desire to learn more, please do not hesitate to call us. We recognize this is a new service offering in the Mifflin-Juniata area, and we welcome any opportunity to talk about it.
