When faced with an unexpected hospital admission, what are some things that would make the stay more comfortable for older adults? Answering that question turned into a project at Valley View Retirement Community. Residents and team members gathered together to create “Kindness Kits,” reusable bags filled with things they wished they had while hospitalized, topped off with a handwritten get-well card.

Valley View Retirement Community is expanding its continuum of memory care services with the upcoming opening of a new Memory Personal Care neighborhood, The Landing at Memory Lane, designed to meet the growing needs of individuals living with memory loss while promoting dignity, purpose, and connection.

In May, the Belleville Lions Club hosted a ham sandwich sale to benefit Valley View Retirement Community’s Benevolent Fund. The fund supports residents who, through no fault of their own, have outlived their financial resources, ensuring they continue to receive the lifelong, faith-based care they deserve.

The Purple Carnival, held on June 18, 2026, blends the fun of a traditional summer carnival with a mission rooted in compassion — honoring people living with dementia and Alzheimer’s, supporting caregivers and helping the wider community understand memory change with empathy.

A community action team of local business and professional leaders is coming together to make Mifflin and Juniata counties more dementia friendly. Comprised of professionals from across the region—including banks, recreational centers, health care, and the chamber of commerce—the team is focused on identifying ways the community can better support people living with dementia and their caregivers.
