Stewardship: Reaping the benefits of giving back

Value: Stewardship: We will exercise prudence in managing our resources and strive for efficiency and cost effectiveness

Bob Allen and his wife Brenda moved to the Village in 2023 after his career in financial management at IBM. Believing stewardship is an obligation we all share, Bob quickly joined resident committees and campus events. His initiative led him to help organize resident items in Oakwood Centre and partner with leadership to bring resident ideas to life. By seeing the potential in what already existed, he helped give Oakwood Centre a true “refresh.”
“When my wife Brenda and I moved to Valley View Village, we saw so many people putting their heart and soul into volunteering, from the Beautification Committee to producing the Village newsletter,” he shares.
He says that when residents are involved and give back, it allows team members to use that time to focus on more things that will help the community.
He says that managing our resources and showing good stewardship is something that everyone can, and should, do. “Sure, we have a list of excuses,” he said. “But I felt so much obligation to serve. It is incumbent on those who are able to be here, and benefit from being here, to give back.”
“Bob’s vision is a lasting example of stewardship–honoring what was, while inspiring what could be. Through his leadership, a once-familiar space has been renewed into a vibrant center of community, connection, and purpose.”
